Science Writer
I studied Biology at Georgetown University and got my M.A. in Science Writing at Johns Hopkins. I’m interested in nature, the environment, birds, genetics, food, space, mental health, psychology, robotics and many other topics, both real and imaginary.
In my writing, I try to include the same sense of excitement and adventure I’ve found in works of sci-fi and fantasy. I hope to draw out the characters behind the discoveries, emphasizing how we can only learn about the universe through the kaleidoscopic lens of human experience.
While reporting this story for Washingtonian, I became a bona fide birder. My current favorite birds are the belted kingfisher, the cedar waxing, the blue jay, and the tufted titmouse (it’s the crests!).
I like to bake bread and I keep a sourdough starter named Dame Judi Dench.
I’ve played the electric bass in rock bands, jazz bands, and pit orchestras, and I’m doing my very best to learn bluegrass banjo.
I’m a big fan of tabletop and board games, especially Dungeons and Dragons. I’ve been a Dungeon Master for three years.
